JUNE 2020
Esperit Youngs is a nursery in the Westland region of the Netherlands that specialises in the production of young ornamental plants. In a recent greenhouse expansion, the company installed a climate screen strategy based on Svensson products to support plant quality throughout the year. SchermNed, a long-time partner, led the installation.
Before the project, the growers at Esperit Youngs were using a standard climate screen with moderate shading and diffusion. They found that during periods of high solar radiation, crops near the edges of the greenhouse received excessive light and heat, leading to uneven growth. The company wanted a solution that would provide more uniform conditions and improve overall crop consistency.

“We see strong sunlight on certain parts of the greenhouse, and plants can struggle with that when you have an uneven climate,” said one of the growers. “We expected that with a better climate screen concept, we could achieve a more balanced environment.”
After evaluating several options, the team decided to install Svensson’s PARperfect climate screen in combination with a dedicated energy screen. The idea was to balance efficient shading with minimal energy loss during cooler months.
Screen installation and performance
SchermNed led the installation of the screens. The bottom layer is a harmony climate screen designed to increase light diffusion and reduce hot spots, while the top layer is an energy screen to retain heat during colder periods.
“The new screen setup gives us noticeably more even light inside the greenhouse,” the grower explains. “We are now able to manage high radiation periods without stressing the plants, and at the same time retain heat when needed.”
The team also worked closely with Svensson’s climate consultants to ensure the screens were optimized for the specific crop types and the Westland light environment.

Curious what made it all work?
